the diver by boston-joe the diver by boston-joe
after 2 failed layouts/ideas for a new diver pin up, i finally came up with something i was happy with. i wanted something with a kind of triumphant feel to it. so theres a bit of a nod to the "washington crossing the delaware" painting. and i wanted to focus on very clear shapes and angles. theres also a bit of a nod to mignola's "the island" issue 1 cover. i wanted something very simplistic, but still had some feeling to it. mignola's cover to the first issue of the island is so great in its simplicity. easily one of my favorite covers. and the emerging ghosts from the water are there just so theres some threat... that and they're cool.

i'll have this colored and printed for the upcoming heroes convention in NC june 22nd-24th. anyone who cant make it and would like one, just contact me here and i can tell you how to order one.

Hello Joe,

I’m Tito, an aspiring comic writer. We briefly met at Boston Comic Con and I was thrilled to encounter your work.

I'm aware that you are currently working on the Diver as well as a project with Chris Irvin. But I really like your style and I'd love to work with you whenever you are available.

I’m trying to put together a small team of paid artists to work on some indie projects with the goal of breaking into the big two (DC being my preference).

If you are interested could you email me what times you would be available for a Skype or phone interview?

My Skype address is tito.james-team1

My cell number 781-929-3661

I look forward to hearing from you,

Tito James

Masterful! here's an interesting history of "clear line" drawing that I just happened to read. fabricagrafica.tumblr.com/post…
You're stepping it up a new level in a way.

You're too kind my man! I loved that article. Thank you for sending that. A lot of names in there I'll have to look up. I'm familiar with Herge, but not the others.

Love this piece. What can you tell me about The Holy Diver? Is this a comic that's out or that you are still working on or what? Can I buy this bad boy? I needs to know.

thanks man. well, for starters, im just calling him "the diver" now. there are no books yet, but i am working on one right now. i recently finished page 2 and ill be getting started on page 3 soon. you can absolutely buy it... once i finish it. if you look through my gallery, from my oldest work to my newest work, youll be able to see the progression of the character, and some pages for unfinished stories.
